Tipu murder case, Musa on 3-day fresh remand

A Dhaka court yesterday placed Sumon Shikder alias Musa on a three-day fresh remand in the case filed over Dhaka’s Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu, and college student Samia Afran Jamal Prity’s murder in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area on March 24.
Magistrate Ashek Imam of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after Mohammad Yasin Sikder, Inspector of Detective Branch of Police and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced Musa, known as a key suspect in the case, with a seven-day remand plea for further interrogation.
Musa was produced in the court on Wednesday (June 22) after his four-day remand in the second phase. Earlier, he was placed on a six-day remand in the first phase. In the remand prayer on Wednesday, the IO said Musa coordinated the killing and supplied firearm which was used in the murder incident.
Moreover, two other arrestees- Masum Mohammad alias Akash and Md Nasiruddin Manik made confessions when they admitted their involvement with Musa during the killing. As such, he needs to be remanded to recover the arms which was used in the killing, the IO added.
On June 9, Musa was brought home from Oman by police. Oman police arrested Musa on May 12 when he was returning to Dubai after offering prayers at a shrine in Salalah city, DB source said. With Musa, detectives arrested 16 accused people in connection with the murder.
