A Dhaka court yesterday placed an Awami League leader and two other accused on a two-day fresh remand each in the case filed over the murders of Dhaka AL leader Jahidul Islam Tipu, and college student Samia Afran Jamal Prity in the capital’s Shahjahanpur area on March 24.
The accused are Omar Farooq (52), AL General Secretary of Dhaka South City Corporation’s Ward-10 unit, Nasir Uddin alias Killer Nasir (38), and Morshedul Alam alias Kayla Palash (51).
Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Nur passed the order after Mohammad Yasin Sikder, Inspector of Detective Branch of Police and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced the accused in the court seeking a seven-day remand plea.
In the remand prayer, the IO said all the three accused need to be questioned face-to-face with key suspect Sumon Shikder alias Musa to gather information about the murders. Musa is now on a six-day remand in the case. The three accused were earlier placed on a five-day remand in this case.
On June 9, Musa, 43, was brought home from Oman by police. Oman police arrested Musa on May 12 when he was returning to Dubai after offering prayers at a shrine in Salalah city, DB sources said.

Police have so far arrested 13 people, including Musa in connection with the killings.
On March 24, Tipu, 55, former General Secretary of Motijheel Awami League, was returning home by his microbus from his restaurant of Motijheel AGB Colony area. The vehicle was stuck at a traffic light in Shahjahanpur when attackers arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and opened fire.
College student Prity, 22, who on a rickshaw next to the vehicle, was also shot. Later, the two were declared dead after they were being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
