Tipu Munshi tests positive for Corona

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has tested positive for coronavirus. The Minister underwent a COVID-19 test after showing symptoms and the report came back positive on Wednesday, Abdul Latif Bakshi, a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, confirmed the matter.
Tipu Munshi will be taken to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka immediately. Munshi, 70, is physically stable now, said Bakshi.
The Minister joined the budget session in parliament on June 15. Munshi, a freedom fighter, was elected to the Parliament from the Rangpur-4 constituency as an Awami League candidate for the third time in 2018. A former president of garment exporters’ association BGMEA and the founding managing director of apparel company, Sepal Group, Munshi was installed as the country’s Commerce Minister in January 2019.
The country has registered 98,489 virus cases so far and the tally of deaths surged to 1,305 on Wednesday.
