Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi Saturday said fair prices of essential commodities would be ensured by establishing competition in the market.
“Enforcement of the Competition Commission’s law has to be ensured for fair price alongside raising mass awareness for it,” he added.
The minister was addressing a seminar titled “Role of Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) for Sustainable and Inclusive Development” as the chief guest organized by the BCC at CIRDAP auditorium.
He said the government would not give any scope to any syndicate to increase the prices of essential commodities by hoarding rather it would ensure the demand and supply chain ratio for fair price.
Recalling the contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in attaining independence and economic freedom for the Bangali nation, the minister said his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also working relentlessly for building “Sonar Bangla dreamed by Bangabandhu.
“The country was not made independent for a group of people. So, the government will do everything to ensure fair prices of products,” he added Tipu Munshi said people would be affected if there is no competition in the business and the government would prevent all types of activities which are harmful for the people.
Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam, former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman and FBCCI president Md Safiul Islam Mohiuddin also spoke with BCC Chairman Md Iqbal Khan Chowdhury in the chair. Economist Dr Abdur Razzaque made keynote presentation in the seminar.
