State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, MP stressed on ensuring timely surgery to completely cure the lip cleft and soft palate cleft babies.
“There is nothing nobler than bringing back smile in the faces of the lip cleft and palate cleft babies through repairing their congenital anomalies,” Ranga said this on Saturday while addressing a post-rally advocacy meeting cum launching ceremony in Rangpur as the chief guest.
The USA-based Smile Train Inc jointly with its local partner Good Health Hospital, Rangpur (GHHR) organised the event at Begum Rokeya auditorium in the city to launch the ‘Smile Train Good Health Cleft Project (STGHHCP)’ for Rangpur region.
Presided over by Executive Director of GHHR Dr Syed Mamunur Rahman, Country Director of Smile Train Inc-USA Mostafizur Rahman delivered power-point presentation on activities of Smile Train Inc in the country.

Magistrate AKM Maruf Hasan, Vice-principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnabi Laizu and Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Abdur Razzaque addressed as special guests.
In his presentation, Mostafizur Rahman narrated about the lip cleft and palate cleft situation currently prevailing in the country, where Smile Train Inc in association with its partner organisations already conducted 40,000 operations of such patients so far.
“Timely operation successfully repairs lip cleft and palate clefts to completely cure the patients giving them smiling faces,” he said adding that the Smile Train Inc and its partner organisations had been conducting surgery and providing cost-free treatments.
Assuring of providing all possible assistance to GHHR for successful implementation of the project, the chief guest called upon every citizen to disseminate the information and bring every lip cleft and palate cleft babies there for cost-free operations.
