In the wake of his landslide victory in the eleventh parliamentary election of the country, Bangladesh limited over skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza said his next attention is to get prepare for the World Cup 2019.
Mashrafe bin Mortaza said, “If I play till the World Cup, I have about seven or eight months remaining in my playing career. I don’t know what I am going to do in the following four-and-a-half years. The Prime Minister has given me an opportunity to serve the people.”
Contesting on the ticket of Awami League, he got 274,418 votes, 96% of the total vote casted in the particular constituency. His rival Jatiya Oikya Front candidate AZM Fariduzzaman got just 8,006 votes.
Speaking to ANI, he had made it clear that cricket will always be his first love and he will not get distracted despite contesting in elections.
When he was asked about the retirement plan from cricket, 35 year old Mashrafe bin Mortaza said,
“My personal goal was to play till the World Cup, which is eight months away. During this time I will be playing within my plan. Whether I will review my decision [to quit after the World Cup] or not, time will tell.”
Mashrafe bin Mortaza played 202 limited over matches for Bangladesh and claimed 258 wickets in an economy rate of 4.80.
In 36 Test matches, Mashrafe captured 78 wickets in an economy rate of 3.24. He also has 42 T20I wickets in his bag.
