Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said time has come for Begum Khaleda Zia to quit BNP as her politics has failed.
“BNP is like a sinking boat now, when a ship sinks people on board it try to grab even straws for their survival. BNP has now been facing such a situation. Khaleda Zia’s party is at the verge of split,” he said.
Hanif said this recently while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion in the city. Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organised the discussion at Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue marking the day of keeping Awami League president Sheikh Hasina under captivity.
BCL president HM Badiuzzaman Sohag presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Awami League Central Working Committee member SM Kamal Hossain, former general secretary of BCL Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton, BCL vice-president Joydeb Nandi and its Dhaka City unit president Bayezid Ahmed Khan.
Alleging that Begum Khaleda Zia along with the killers of 1971 has still been conspiring against Awami League, Hanif said, “Most of the leaders of BNP have lost faith in their own party. To get a respite from the prevailing situation, they have now been coming up with fictitious remarks on any matter of the government to remain complacent and to revamp their demoralised workers. They have been hatching conspiracy to oust Awami League government.”
However, the Awami League joint general secretary warned that they would not get any scope for escape resorting to falsehood as many front ranking leaders in BNP could not be spared of the music of split in their party and the change in the party leadership.
Speaking at another discussion at the central office of Awami Juba League (AJL) at Bangabandhu Avenue, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam, B Sc, said Awami League president and former opposition leader Sheikh Hasina was arrested on this day in 2007 in a bid to destroy democracy in Bangladesh.
“People of Bangladesh could easily realise then that it was not Sheikh Hasina but democracy was kept captive on July 16 in 2007.
