Manzur murder: Time extended for more investigation

Court Correspondent :A Dhaka court on Tuesday again extended time to the special police super of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for more investigation into Major Manzur murder case.Judge Khandaker Hasan Mohammad Firoz of the First Additional District and Sessions’ Judge’s Court of Dhaka extended the time till October 9 upon time petition of Investigation Officer (IO) and Special Police Super of CID Abdul Kahar Akond. He said, in his petition that he needed more time.Besides, HM Ershad, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister, two other accusedwere present in the courtroom. Earlier, the court extended time for further investigation into the case on two more occasions by April 22 and July 15.The case statement says that Major General Abul Manzur Ahmed, Bir Uttam, was killed in police custody on June 1, 1981 after two days of the assassination of the then President General Ziaur Rahman at the local circuit house in an abortive coup.Manzur’s brother Barrister Abul Mansur Ahmed filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station of Chittagong on February 28, 1995, fourteen years after the murder. Later, the case was transferred to Dhaka for its disposal on security reasons.
