Writer Mushtaq Ahmed becomes the victim of murder through the Digital Security Act, said Ganashasthya Kendra trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury.
He was speaking at a rally before a gayebana janaza of writer Mushtaq Ahmed at Shahbagh in the capital on Friday afternoon.
Dr Zafrullah said: “Writer Mushtaq was murdered. Don’t we know who the murderers were? We know them. His killers were the government and law enforcing agencies. Notorious Digital Security Act is an
ordinance of the government. Those who were involved in framing the Digital Security Act, each of them is involved in this murder.”
“The government can’t keep people silent through the Digital Security Act. Time has come to bury this draconian act,” he said.
Ganashasthya Kendra trustee said Bangabandhu’s murder was a very tragic incident. I think, Mushtaq’s murder is also tragic.
Criticising the Digital Security Act, Dr Zafrullah said, “Today, it is the responsibility of judges to state clearly that the Digital Security Act is contrary to the fundamental rights of citizens. Honourable Prime Minister, if you want to remain alive, please bury this law. If I say anything against you, you yourself should file a case, not through any police constable. No government can survive keeping a draconian act like the Digital Security Act in force.”
Addressing the upper court judges, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury also said: “We want to remind that you also have the responsibility. Please, don’t remain silent. We hope that you will clearly state next week who were responsible for the killing of Mushtaq Ahmed.”
The rally was also attended by Dhaka University teacher Dr Asif Nazrul, Tanjim Uddin Khan, Rushad Faridi, former DUCSU VP Nurul Huq Noor, journalist Faruque Wasif, chief coordinator of Ganasanghati Andolon Jonayed Saki, among others.
It may be recalled that writer Mushtaq Ahmed who was arrested under the Digital Security Act died at Kashimpur Jail on Thursday evening.
