A timber trader in Bogura was hacked to death allegedly by a local Jubo League leader on Friday noon.
The victim was identified as Shahed, 35, son of Tozammel Hossain of Purba Ashkona village under Bogura Sadar upazila, reports our local correspondent.
Police detained accused Rubel, 30, president of Jubo League’s Nishindara Union unit, and his cohort Shanto.
The incident took place in broad daylight at Nungola Eidgah field area, police said quoting locals.
According to witnesses, Rubel and Shanto were beating one local youth Jony around 12:15pm with wooden planks. Shahed tried to stop them from using the wood, which was from his shop.
At that point, Rubel and his cohorts hacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured, said Rezaul Karim, inspector (investigation) of Bogura Sadar Police Station. Locals rushed Shahed to TMSS Medical College where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:00pm, the police official said. On information, police detained Rubel and Shanto from the area around 3:00pm, he also said, adding that the body of the deceased has been sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
No case was filed in this connection till filing of this report on Friday evening.
