Bangladesh women’s cricket team conceded the second successive defeat in the five ODI series against host South Africa women’s as they lost the second game by nine wickets at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on Sunday.
SA Women’s chased down an easy target of 90 for 1 in 17.1 overs, after restricting the visiting side on 89 for all in 39.5 overs.
SA’s top scorer Laura Wolvaardt (37* off 50b; 4×4) shared a partnership of 65 off 11.4 overs with opener Lizelle Lee (32 off 37b; 5×4) in the opening stand before Trisha Chetty (13* off 16b; 2×4) came at the crease for the rest sharing in the innings with L Wolvaardt.
Lizelle Lee was caught bySanjida Islam off experienced Salma Khatun (1/19), the only successful bowler for Bangladesh.
In Bangladesh innings, Panna Ghosh (20* off 54b; 2×4), Jahanara Alam (18 off 43b; 4×4) and Nigar Sultana (17 off 20b; 3×4) were double digit scorers for the side, starting the innings with bat after winning the toss.
Pace bowler Ayabonga Khaka was adjudged player of the match with her three-for an economic 13 in six overs.
Raisibe Ntozakhe (3/16), Chloe Tryon (1/5), skipper Dane van Niekerk (1/10) and Masabata Klaas (1/16) shared six wickets for the winnings team.
With the day’s result, Bangladesh women’s have 0-2 setback in the series as they lost the 1st ODI by 106 runs.
The next match of the series will be held at Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Wednesday (May 9).
