Tight security on Pahela Baishakh: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police have taken tight security measures on the occasion of Bangla New Year ‘Pahela Baishakh’.
“DMP has taken all out security measures for Pahela Baisakh celebration peacefully in the capital,” said DMP Commissioner Asaduzaman Miah on Thursday while briefing journalists at the DMP media center.
He said full proof security measures have been taken to ensure safe and happy celebration of the Pahela Baisakh for the city people.
The DMP Commissioner said, “Police will cordon off important venues in the city like Dhaka University campus, Teachers-Student Centre, Shahbagh intersection, Ramna park, Suhrawardy Udyan areas, Hatirjheel and Dhanmondi Lake areas for ensuring smooth celebration of the first day of Bangla New Year.”
“All open venues will be under CCTV coverage and separate watch towers will also be set up in important areas,” he said.
People will be happy and they will enjoy the first day of the Bangla New Year in festive mood as the DMP has taken strong and co-ordinated security measures for the important occasion, he said.
The DMP commissioner also said, law enforcers will put barricades in Nilkhet, Palashi and Bangla Motor areas as no vehicles can enter the areas.
He said the police have arranged archway and metal detectors for the general people to go through.
He also adivsed the people to refrain from carrying any vanity bag, bags, trolleys, inflammable things, knives, and sharp weapons.
The DMP commissioner said open areas where people will go for celebration will be swept by dog squad and Special Weapon and Tactics, devices. The bomb disposal units also will be deployed.
A special team would be deployed to prevent eve-teasing during the festival, he said.
He said separate patrol teams of Navy will be deployed in Hatirjheel and Rabindra Sarobar areas and divers and fire service unit-5 will remain standby.
The DMP chief asked to the people to refrain from wearing masks and not to play Vuvuzela on the day to avert any unpleasant incident.
The law enforcers will escort the Mongol Shobhajatra to be brought out by the students of the Institute of Fine Arts of Dhaka University.
The commissioner said all the programmes of Pahela Baishakh must end by 5:00pm while Rabindra Sarobar programme by 7:00pm.
