The law enforcing agencies particularly Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) has taken special security measures for holy Ashura like every year.
SMP Commissioner Gulam Kibria said police has taken special measures for controlling the law and order situation on the holy Ashura in the city. “We will ensure the tight security for the religious people to observe the Ashura in the city.”
He said police is prepared to resist any unwanted situation and any anarchy in the city. As per directives of the higher authority, SMP and other authorities have taken special measures in this regard, he adds.
Police authority deployed additional number of police in the vulnerable areas including the mosques and mazars in the city. “We have already intensified the patrolling in the city area. We are conducting raids at the suspected spots where the anarchists may hide in Sylhet,” he said.
