Police will mount tight security across the country so people can celebrate Bengali New Year’s Day, Pahela Baishakh, peacefully.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting on security measures on Pahela Baisakh at the conference room of Police Headquarters with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandker in the chair on Tuesday.
Bangla New Year Pahela Baishakh will be celebrated across the country on April 14.
Addressing the meeting, the IGP asked members of law enforcing agencies, including police to remain alert against any disruption.
He sought cooperation from the people to the members of law enforcing agencies in performing their duties at celebration venues.
Sources said the meeting decided to take additional security arrangements across the country, including the capital, on the day.
In Capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Rapid Action Battalion will set up separate control rooms at Ramna Park. Besides, RAB’s helicopter will also remain standby for emergency rescue operation if necessary.
Special security measures will also be taken at prominent shopping malls, markets,
business establishments for traditional ‘Halkhata’ on Pahela Baishakh.
The meeting also decided to set up special control rooms at Police headquarters, all metropolitan police, Ranges, and district police super’s offices to coordinate the security arrangements.
Among others, senior officers of police headquarters and different units of police, DG Rab and representatives of intelligence agencies were present at the meeting.
