A wonderful 118 by Tamim Iqbal guided Bangladesh to win the series 2-1 against Afghanistan after thrashing Afghanistan by 141 runs in the third and final ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday. Tamim hit a run-a-ball superb innings that studded with 11 fours and two sixes.
Tamim Iqbal was adjudged the Man of the Match and also was awarded the prize of the Man of the Series for his consistent batting performance.
Earlier, the Tigers posted a seven-run victory over the visitors in the first ODI at the same venue on September 25.
Later, Afghanistan earned a two-wicket victory over the hosts in the second ODI at the same venue on September 28.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 279 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs and then shot out Afghanistan for 138 off 33.5 overs.
Bangladeshi bowlers totally dominated over the Afghan batsmen and most of the Afghanistan’s batsmen failed to face Bangladeshi controlled and tight bowling attack.
Mosharraf Hossain grabbed three wickets at the cost
of 24 runs while Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets instead of 31 runs.
Besides, Mosaddek Hossain, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Shafiul Islam took one wicket each for five, 15 and 28 runs respectively.
Afghanistan had a poor start as their opener Mohammad Shahzaed (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when Afghanistan’s total was just five for the loss of one wicket.
After dismissal of Shahzad, Nawroz Mangal and Rahmat Shah repaired the damage adding together 47 runs for the second wicket stand before Nawroz Mangal was trapped leg before wicket by Mosharraf Hossain when Afghanistan’s score was 52 for the loss of two wickets.
Rahmat Shah made 36 from 73 balls while Nawroz Mangal scored 33 off 38 balls including four fours.
Then Mosharraf Hossain dismissed Hashmatullah Shahidi for naught when the tourists’ total was 52 for the loss of three wickets.
Third-down Asghar Stanikzai (1) was run out by Shakib Al Hasan when the visitors’ score was 55 for the loss of four wickets. Samiullah Shenwari was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Taskin Ahmed when Afghanistan’s score was 83 for the loss of five wickets.
After departure of Shenwari, Rahmat Shah was caught at the mid-wicket by substitute Nasir Hossain off Taskin Ahmed when Afghanistan’s total was 88 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Mohammad Nabi (3) was caught and bowled by Mosharraf Hossain when Afghanistan’s score was 89 for the loss of seven wickets.
After departure of Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan (17) was run out by Mahmudullah Riyad when Afghanistan’s total was 132 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then Mosaddek Hossain dismissed Najibulah Zadran when the tourists’ score was 132 for the loss of nine wickets.
