Bangladesh whitewashed Zimbabwe by 3-0 in the three-match ODI series as the Tigers thrashed Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the third and last ODI at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
Chasing Zimbabwe’s total of 286 for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs, Bangladesh sailed home making 288 for the loss of three wickets remaining with 7.5 overs.
Bangladesh started with an unhappy note as opener Liton Das (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Kyle Jarvis when Bangladesh’s total was zero.
Then Imrul Kayes and Soumya Sarkar salvaged their team from early danger contributing together 220 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya Sarkar was caught at the long-on by Donald Tiripano off Hamilton Masakadza when the team’s total was 220 for the loss of two wickets.
Soumya notched up a marvelous 117. His 92-ball innings was studded with six sixes and nine fours. It was Sarkar’s 2nd ODI century.
Imrul Kayes smashed a superb 115. His 112-ball knock was laced with 10 fours and two sixes. It was Imrul’s fourth ODI century.
After departure of Soumya, Imrul Kayes and Mushfiqur Rahim added 54 runs for the third wicket partnership before Imrul Kayes was caught by Chigumbura off Wellington Masakadza when Bangladesh’s score was 274 for the loss of three wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun helped their team to reach the winning spot.
Mushfiqur remained unbeaten with 28.
Hamilton Masakadza, Kyle Jarvis and Wellington Masakadza took one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Zimbabwe had a poor start as the tourists’ lost early two wickets just six runs.
Then Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams repaired the early damage adding together 132 runs for the third wicket partnership before Brendan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Nazmul Islam Apu when Zimbabwe’s total was 138 for the loss of three wickets.
Sean Williams remained unbeaten with 129. His sparkle 143-ball innings was laced with 10 fours and a sixer.
Taylor hit a polished 75. His 72-ball knock was ornamented with eight fours and three sixes.
After Taylor’s dismissal, Williams and Sikandar Raza added together 84 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Raza was caught at the long-on by Soumya Sarkar off Nazmul Islam Apu when the tourists’ score was 222 for the loss of four wickets.
Raza hit a fine 40 from 51 balls featuring two fours and a sixer. After departure of Raza, Williams and Peter Moor put on together 62 runs before Moor (28) was run out by Ariful Haque when Zimbabwe’s total was 284 for the loss of five wickets. Nazmul Islam bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 58 runs, while Abu Hider and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket each for 39 and 51 runs respectively.
Soumya Sarkar was adjudged the Man of the Match, while Imrul Kayes was adjudged the Player of the Series.
