India’s seventh straight Test wins, including a four innings victory in a row, was scripted by their venomous pace attack, the stat suggested.
India’s pace trio-Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav took the available 19 Bangladeshi wickets in the second Test, which was the maiden Day-Night Test of the both sides with pink ball. Mahmudullh Riyad however retired hurt due to hamstring issue to deprive the trio to complete 20 wickets haul.
Thanks to the fast bowlers, Virat Kohli became the first captain to get an innings victory in four matches at a stretch.
But it’s only the first time at home India have won a Test without a wicket from their spinners – the last time was in Johannesburg last year, when they played four fast bowlers. That showed how good their fast bowling group is, while they were without the service of another best bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who was in rehab following his injury.
India’s seventh straight victory is also their best ever winning streak.
“Definitely, the gap between the two teams is concerning. We’ve to learn from these two matches and follow up what happened,” Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque said, who tasted a horrendous experience on his captaincy debut series.
“Their fast bowlers were excellent and we couldn’t deal with them properly. They are probably the best fast bowling unit at this moment.”
The Indian fast bowlers were on Bangladeshi batsmen’s throat right from the start of the Test series. In second Test under lights, they became more dangerous as the pink ball offered more bounce. At least four Bangladesh batsmen got hit on their head, forcing two to be withdrawn from the game with concussion issue.
“They do hunt as a pack and they do take pride in others’ performances and that’s the real secret behind the pack,” said India bowling coach Bharat Arun.
“That’s what has given them all the success. We’re an experienced bowling attack and the beauty of the attack is how quickly they adapt to situations. I thought they adapted well to pink ball. New Zealand will be a good challenge and we’re looking forward to it.”
