Under-19 Cricket: Tigers thrash Proteas 6-1

The Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team completed their domination of the visiting South Africa Under-19 side in the seven-match Youth ODI series, finishing off with a one wicket victory in the last match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Thursday.
The win meant the young Tigers took the series 6-1 against the U-19 world champions.
Batting first after winning the toss, the Proteas scored a moderate 232 runs for 6 in 50 overs, spurred by a 5th wicket stand of 74 runs in 11.1 overs, between AD Galiem and skipper BS Makhanya.
Number five AD Galiem scored team highest 53 off 49 balls with seven fours while number three D Foxcroft (49), PWA Mulder (32), R Moonsamy (30), BS Makhanya (24), Aaqil Ebrahim (not out 17) and opener RD Rickelton (13) were the other double digit contributor for the side.
Mohammad Saifuddin grabbed two wickets for 44 runs in 4 overs while Sanjit Saha, Qazi Onik, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Nahid Hasan took one wicket each.
Chasing a target of 233 runs, Bangladesh reached the destination scoring 236 for 9 in 49.4 overs, riding on the fourth wicket pair between Mehedi Hasan and skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto’s stand for 99 runs in 17.4 overs. Mehedi Hasan scored 61 off 61 balls with 10 fours while Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 55 runs off 91 balls with six fours and a six.
Earlier, on their way to chasing the target of the young Tigers’ faced early jolt losing their first wickets for 19 runs in 4.5 overs.
Skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Pinak Ghosh reduced the early damage contributing 57 runs in 13.3 overs, in the second wicket stand, while scoreboard showing 76 for 2 for in 18.2 overs for Bangladesh.
Pinak Ghosh scored 41 runs off 47 balls with five fours and one six.
Young Tigers were again faced crucial trouble when they lost their 9th wicket on 217 in 48.1 overs with still to trail by 16 runs.
Saifuddin, who was adjudged the man of the match for his all-round effort at the end, scored unbeaten 34 off 40 with five fours led Bangladesh Under 19 to wining score eventually.
AD Galiem and PWA Mulder grabbed two wickets each for 33 and 38 runs respectively. D Foxcroft and L Ngidi took one wicket apiece for the side.
