Bangladesh Cricket team target to clinch the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-West Indies three-match ODI series remaining one ODI match. Before today’s match, Bangladesh faced West Indies in 39 ODI matches. Of them, the Tigers won 16 matches, lost to the Caribbeans side in 21 games and two matches were abandoned. The latest victory of Bangladesh was their sixth straight win against the West Indies.
The Tigers will take on the Caribbeans team in the second ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur today. The match begins at 11.30am.
State-owned television channel Bangladesh Television (BTV), private sports satellite channel T Sports and Nagorik TV will telecast the match live from the arena.
Earlier, Bangladesh registered an easy six-wicket win over West Indies in the first ODI at the same venue on Wednesday last.
It may be mentioned that West Indies team arrived in the city without their key players. A number of six Caribbeans made their debut on the first ODI. On the other hand, promising pacer Hasan Mahmud made his debut on Wednesday and showed a satisfactory performance as he grabbed three wickets at the cost of 28 runs.
It is noteworthy that world Number-1 ODI all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returned with a stunning performance as he captured four wickets for just eight runs. Shakib Al Hasan was banned by International Cricket Council (ICC) for one year as he failed to report corrupt approaches to the authority.
However, Shakib again proved that he has still capability, stamina and fitness.
Tamim Iqbal, the new ODI captain of Bangladesh Cricket team got success in his ODI campaign as his side posted a massive victory on Wednesday.
Shakib Al Hasan said, “If anybody thinks the visitors are not good team because their first choice players didn’t come, he will make a mistake.”
He said, “Even we beat their full strength team at home and away. But they are always good team and we should not feel complacent for this victory. They won’t let us to make it cake-walk. We have to work hard work to win over them.”
West Indies captain Jason Mohammed vowed to push Bangladesh hard in the second game in a bid to keep the series alive.
Jason said, “We have to give ourselves a little bit more time. It is difficult to score in the middle overs with the spinners so negotiating that part of the innings is going to be crucial for us.”
He said, “We are inexperienced in terms of batting but I think they are capable of doing the job. It was out first outing. Wicket was a little bit difficult. Hopefully tomorrow’s game, we can put up a better batting performance.”
