Tigers tasted a narrow 28-run defeat after giving a stunning fight against India in their match of the ICC World Cup Cricket at Birmingham in England on Tuesday.
Electing to bat first, India piled up a fighting total of 314 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs and then all out Bangladesh for 286 off 48 overs.
Bangladesh made a good start with openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar put on together 39 runs in the opening stand before Tamim (22) was bowled out by Mohammad Shami.
Soumya and Shakib Al Hasan added 35 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya was caught at the extra cover by Virat Kohli off Hardik Pandya when Bangladesh’s total was 74 for the loss of two wickets.
Soumya made 33 from 38 balls featuring four fours.
One-down Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 47 runs in the third wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim (24) was caught at the mid-wicket by Mohammad Shami off Yuzvendra Chahal when the team’s score was 121 for the loss of three wickets.
Then Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das built another notable partnership. They added together 41 runs in the four-wicket stand before Liton Das ( 22) was caught at the mid-wicket by Karthik off Pandya when Bangladesh’s total was 162.
Mosaddek Hossain (3) was bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah when Bangladesh’s score was 173 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan was at the extra cover by Karthik off Pandya when the team’s total was 179 for the loss of six wickets.
Then Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin made a worthy partnership. They added together 66 runs in the second wicket stand before Sabbir Rahman was bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah when the team’s score was 245 for the loss of seven wickets.
Sabbir hit a run-a-ball 36 with five fours.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (8) was caught behind by MS Dhoni off Buvneshawar Kumar when Bangladesh’s total was 257 for the loss of eight wickets.
Rubel Hossain (9) was bowled out by Bumrah when Bangladesh’s score was 286 for the loss of nine wickets.
Mustafizur Rahman ()) was bowled out by Bumrah when Bangladesh’s total was 286 and the Tigers innings was conckluded.
Mohammad Saifuddin remained unbeaten with 51.
Jasprit Bumrah captured four wickets.
Though India scored a good total but left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman restored some parity during India’s innings claiming five wickets at the cost of 59 runs.
India made an outstanding smart as openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma put on together 180 runs in the opening stand before Rohit was caught at the extra cover by Liton Das off Soumya Sarkar.
Rohit notched up a splendid 104. His 92-ball innings saw five sixes and seven fours. It was Rohit’s 26th ODI century.
KL Rahul was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Rubel Hossain when India’s total was 195 for the loss of two wickets.
Rahul hit a marvelous 77. His 92-ball knock had six fours and a sixer. It was Rahul’s 4th ODI half-century.
One-down Virat Kohli and second-down Rishabh Pant added together 42 runs in the third wicket stand before Kohli ( 26) was caught at the mod-wicket by Rubel Hossain off Mustafizur Rahman when India’s score was 237 for the loss of three wickets.
Mustafizur Rahman struck again as Hardik Pandya (0) was caught at the slip by Soumya Sarkar off the left-arm pacer when India’s total was 237 for the loss of four wickets.
Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni contributed together 40 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Pant was caught at the mid-wicket by Mosaddek Hossain off Shakib Al hasan when India’s score was 277 for the loss of five wickets.
Pant made 48 from 41 balls featuring six fours and a sixer.
Fifth-down Dinesh Kathik (8) was caught at the mid-wicket by Mosaddek Hossain off Mustafizur Rahman when India’s total was 298 for the loss of six wickets.
MS Dhoni (35) was caught at the mid-on by Shakib Al Hasan off Mustafizur Rahman when India’s score was 311 for the loss of seven wickets.
Buvneshawar Kumar (2) was run out by a joint-effort of Mustafizur Rahman and Mushfiqur Rahim when India’s total was 314 for the loss of eight wickets.
Then Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Mohammad Shami for just one run when India’s innings came to an end and Mustafizur Rahman completed his five-wicket haul.
Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan and Rubel Hossain took one wicket each for 33, 41 and 48 runs respectively.
