Bangladesh need eight wickets, while Australia require 156 runs for victory in the 1st Test match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur. The 4th day match starts today at 10.00 am.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh made 260 in the first innings on the first day (Sunday).
In reply, Australia scored 217 in the first innings on the second day (Monday) and trailed by 43 runs in the first innings.
The Tigers made 221 in the second innings on the third day (Tuesday) and took a lead of 264 runs.
The Aussies were 109 for the loss of two wickets at the stumps.
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 45 for the loss of one wicket.
Tamim Iqbal (30) and night watchman Taijul Islam (0) resumed their second innings.
But Taijul Islam (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Nathan Lyon when the hosts’ total was 61 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Imrul Kayes (2) was caught at the second slip by David Warner off Nathan Lyon when the team’s score was 67 for the loss of three wickets.
After dismissal of Kayes, opener Tamim Iqbal and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 78 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Tamim Iqbal was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mathew Wade off Pat Cummins when Bangladesh’s total was 145 for the loss of four wickets.
Tamim Iqbal knocked a sedate 78. His 155-ball innings had eight fours. It was Tamim Iqbal’s 24th Test half century.
After departure of Tamim, in-form Shakib Al Hasan (5) was caught at the cover by Pat Cummins off Nathan Lyon when the team’s score was 143 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman put on together 43 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was run out to the home side’s score of 186 for the loss of six wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a polished 41 from 114 deliveries with one four and one sixer.
After Mushfiqur Rahim dismissal, Nasir Hossain arrived at the crease but he could stay there for a short period as he (0) was caught behind by Mathew Wade off Ashton Agar when the hosts’ total was 186 for the loss of seven wickets.
Then Sabbir Rahman (22) was caught at the short leg by Peter Handscomb off Nathan Lyon when Bangladesh’s score was 186 for the loss of eight wickets.
After Sabbir departure, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Shafiul Islam added together 28 runs for the ninth wicket stand before Shafiul Islam was caught at the short leg by Peter Handscomb off Nathan Lyon when the home side’s total was 214 for the loss of nine wickets.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz was caught at the deep backward square-leg by Usman Khawaja off Nathan Lyon when Bangladesh’s second innings came to an end.
Miraz scored 26 from 35 balls featuring four fours.
Nathan Lyon captured six wickets at the cost of 82 runs, while Ashton Agar bagged a pair of wickets instead of 55 runs.
Besides, Pat Cummins took one wicket for 38 runs.
However, Australia faced an early debacle losing two wickets for 28 runs.
Opener Mathew Renshaw (5) was trapped leg before wicket by Mehedi Hasan Miraz and one-down Usman Khawaja (1) was caught at the deep backward square-leg by Taijul Islam off Shakib Al Hasan when Australia’s score was 28 for the loss of two wickets.
Then opener David Warner and Steve Smith repaired the damage adding together 81 runs for the unbroken third wicket stand before the bails were drawn for the third day.
Warner remained unbeaten with 75. His 96-ball knock decorated with 11 fours and a sixer.
Steve Smith remained unbeaten with 25.
Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan Miraz took one wicket each for 28 and 51 runs respectively.
Today David Warner and Steve Smith will resume their second innings.
