The Tigers posted five-wicket victory over the Kiwis in their last match of the Walton Tri-Nation series at Clontarf Cricket Club Ground in Dublin, Ireland on Wednesday.
Sent into bat first, New Zealand made a fighting total of 270 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh romped home making 271 runs for the loss of five wickets when they had 10 balls to spare.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Soumya Sarkar (0) was caught at the backward point by Corey Anderson off Jeetan Patel when the Tigers’ score was just seven.
Then opener Tamim Iqbal and one-down Sabbir Rahman rescued their team from early debacle contributing together 136 runs for the second wicket partnership before Tamim Iqbal was caught at the mid-wicket by Hamish Bennett off Mitchell Santner when the Tigers’ total was 143 for the loss of two wickets.
Tamim Iqbal hit a marvellous 65. His 80-ball innings was decorated with six fours and a sixer. It was Tamim Iqbal’s 36th ODI half century.
After dismissal of Tamim, Sabbir Rahman’s innings was short-lived as he was unfortunately run out by Neil Broom when Bangladesh’s score was 148 for the loss of three wickets. Sabbir Rahman made a terrific 65. His 83-ball knock was studded with nine fours. It was Sabbir’s fifth ODI half century.
Second-down Mosaddek Hossain (10) was trapped leg before wicket by Jeetan Patel when the team’s total was 160 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan repaired the damage contributing together 39 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Shakib Al Hasan (19) was caught at the long leg by Mitchell Santner off Hamish Bennett when the Tigers’ score was 199 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad brought their team’s all-awaited victory scoring 45 and 46 runs respectively.
