The Tigers bowling efforts got lights of relief capturing South Africans two centurions Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla in the 2nd session on day 2 in the 1st innings of the first Test at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Friday.
Temba Bavuma (31* off 87b; 2×4; 1×6) and skipper Faf du Plessis (26* off 49b; 4×4) were at the crease in the 4th stand when the bails drawn for tea break.
South Africa resumed the 1st innings with overnight score of 298/1 in 90 overs and raised their tally to 496/3 in 146 overs before tea as the innings spurred by the overnight 2nd pair stand of 215 in 63.5 overs between Elgar and Amla.
Tigers pacers Shafiul Islam made the breakthrough in the 3rd ball just after the resume of the 2nd session at 411/2 in 117.3 overs dismissing experienced Hashim Amla, was caught by Mehedi Hasam Miraz, who completed his 27th Test century in the innings.
Mustafizur Rahman disheartened Elgar at Proteas collection of 445/3 in 130.2 overs as the overnight centurion was caught by Mominul Haque just one run before to reach a double century.
Elgar’s 9th Test century saw an innings of 199 off 388 balls, including 15 boundaries and 3 sixes, while overnight Amla stayed for 137 off 200 balls, including 17 boundaries and one six.
Shafiul Islam and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each for 74 and 98 runs respectively.
