The Tigers returned to the winning streak defeating Oman by 26 runs in their second Group-B match of the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers at the Al Amerat Stadium in Oman on Tuesday.
Batting first Bangladesh piled up a fighting total of 153 off 20 overs and then restricted Oman to 127 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as the opener Liton Das (6) was trapped leg before wicket by Bilal Khan when Bangladesh’s score was 11.
After Liton’s dismissal, one-down Mahedi Hasan (0) was caught & bowled by Fayyaz Butt when the visitors total was 21 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Mohammad Naim and Shakib Al Hasan mended the innings contributing together 80 runs for the third wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was unfortunately run out by Aqib Ilyas when the Tigers’ total was 101 for the loss of three wickets.
Shakib struck a superb 42. His 29-ball innings was studded with six fours.
After Shakib’s departure, Bangladesh batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
Opener Mohammad Naim hit his team’s highest of 64. His 50-ball innings was decorated with four sixes and three fours. Naim fulfilled his third T20I half-century using 43 deliveries with three sixes and three fours.
Naim was caught at the deep midwicket by Ayaan Khan off Kaleemullah when the Tigers’ score was 122 for the loss of six wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad made 17 from 10 balls including one four and one six.
Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Butt grabbed three wickets each in the space of 18 and 30 runs respectively, while Kaleemullah bagged two wickets instead of 30 runs.
Zeeshan Maqsood took one wicket for 17 runs.
Bangladesh bowlers dominated the Oman batters.
‘Cutter Boy’ Mustafizur Rahman captured four wickets at the cost of 36 runs, while Shakib Al Hasan claimed three wickets in the space of 28 runs. Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
Besides, Mahedi Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket each for 14 and 16 runs respectively.
Oman had a poor start as opener Aqib Ilias (6) was trapped leg before wicket by ‘ Cutter Boy’ Mustafizur Rahman when Oman’s score was 13.
Then Mustafizur Rahman struck again as one-down Kashyap Prajapati was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan from a delivery of the left-arm pacer when Oman’s total was 47 for the loss of two wickets.
Mahedi Hasan dismissed Zeeshan Maqsud (12), who was caught at the deep square leg by Mushfiqur Rahim off right-arm spinner when the hosts’ total was 81 for the loss of three wickets.
Set-batsman Jatinder Singh was caught at the deep square leg by Mushfiqur Rahim off Shakib Al Hasan when the home side’s score was 90 for the loss of four wickets.
Jatinder Singh made 40 from 33 balls featuring four fours and a sixer.
Fourth-down Sandeep Goud (4) was caught at the cover by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mohammad Saifuddin when Oman’s total was 101 for the loss of five wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan struck again as Ayaan Khan (9) was caught at the long-off by Mahmudullah Riyad off the left-arm spinner when Oman’s score was 105 for the loss of six wickets.
Naseem Khusi (4) was caught at the long-off by Mahmudullah Riyad off Shakib Al Hasan when Oman’s total was 105 for the loss of seven wickets.
Kaleemullah (5) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Mustafizur Rahman when Oman’s score was 112 for the loss of eight wickets.
Fayazz Butt (0) was caught at the extra cover by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mustafizur Rahman when Oman’s total was 112 for the loss of nine wickets.
