The Tigers clinched the ODI series 2-0 as the hosts earned a massive seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the second ODI at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.
Earlier, Bangladesh posted an easy 28-run victory over the tourists in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on October 21.
The Tigers will take on Zimbabwe in the third and last ODI in Chattogram on October 26.
Sent into bat first, Zimbabwe scored 246 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh romped home making 250 for the loss of three wickets when they had 35 balls to spare.
Bangladesh made a solid start as openers Liton Das and Imrul Kayes contributed 148 runs in the opening stand before Liton Das was caught at the point by Donald Tiripano off Sikandar Raza when Bangladesh’s score was 148 for the loss of one wicket.
Liton hit a marvelous 83. His 77-ball innings was laced with 12 fours and a sixer.
After departure of Liton, one-down Fazle Rabbi could stay at the crease for a short period as he (0) was stumped out by Brendan Taylor off Sikandar Raza when the hosts’ total was 152 for the loss of two wickets.
After removal of Fazle Rabbi, Imrul Kayes and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 59 runs for the third wicket partnership before Kayes was caught at the long off by Elton Chigumbura off Sikandar Raza when Bangladesh’s score was 211 for the loss of three wickets.
Imrul notched up a superb 90. His 111-ball knock was ornamented with seven fours.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun added together 39 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket stand.
Mushfiqur remained unbeaten with 40. His 52-ball innings was laced with two fours and a sixer.
Mithun remained unbeaten with 24.
Sikandar Raza claimed three wickets at the cost of 43 runs.
Earlier, Zimbabwe lost their opener Hamilton Masakadza for 18 runs.
Then Cephas Zhuwao and Brendan Taylor repaired the damage adding together 52 runs in the second wicket stand before Zhuwao (20) was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz when Zimbabwe’s total was 70 for the loss of two wickets.
After removal of Zhuwao’s, Taylor and Sean Williams contributed together 77 runs for the third wicket partnership before Taylor was trapped leg before wicket by Mahmudullah when Zimbabwe’s score was 147 for the loss of three wickets.
Taylor hit the team’s highest of 75. His splendid 73-ball innings was laced with nine fours and a sixer.
After Taylor’s departure, Williams and Sikandar Raza put on together 41 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Williams was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Mohammad Saifuddin when the tourists’ total was 188 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Sikandar Raza and Peter Moor added together 41 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Raza was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when the African side’s score was 229 for the loss of five wickets.
Raza hit 49 from 61 balls including two sixes and three fours, while Williams made 47 from 76 balls featuring two fours.
Mohammad Saifuddin grabbed three wickets at the cost of 45 runs, while Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took one wicket each for 21, 35, 45 and 49 runs respectively.
