Tigers are not cricketers, we want good cricketers

BANGLADESH performed very poorly in the recently concluded Asia Cup and the ICC World Twenty20 Cricket. They lost in all the four matches in the first phase and failed to move to the final of the World Cup. Bangladesh became runners-up in the Asia Cup 2012. In the qualifying round of the ICC World Twenty20 Cricket, Bangladesh lost to minnows Hong Kong but due to a better run rate Tigers qualified in the final round (Super Ten) of the tournament. In the Group 2 phase of the competition, they lost to West Indies by 73 runs, to India by eight wickets, to Pakistan by 50 runs and to Australia by seven wickets. What could be the possible reasons why our team choked. A dissection of our failures would prompt one to select certain areas where improvement would be necessary.
It is being said by experts that our players are not able enough to understand the coaching to improve their performance. They have been so pampered that they have not realised it is not necessary to deserve adulation though high performances are. The players have come to think that theirs’ is a limited family business. The good ones from outside are not to be allowed.
Our officials also have to be made more passionate and devoted to the game. They should not embroil themselves in the eddys, vortices, and whirlpools of political and other conflicts and should do their jobs without fear or favour – and the only job they have to cherish and nurture talent. They should not approach their jobs as tickets for free travel junkets abroad and other such related prerequisites. The national cricket team has the responsibility of representing the national honour. Selfishness everywhere is not welcome.
We do not want the Tigers for playing cricket only. They have to be cricketers of World standard.
