TIB urges govt to clear stance on black money

UNB, Dhaka :Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Friday demanded the government to make clear its stance on whitening black money.TIB came up with the urge in a statement issued on Friday, noting that Finance Minister AMA Muhith did not give any ‘clear announcement on the issue’ in his budget speech, creating widespread confusion among people.Expressing concern over the Finance Minister’s silence on good governance and prevention of corruption issues, the anti-graft body urged the government to cancel all scopes of whitening black money through a specific announcement in budget.In the statement, TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said giving opportunity to whiten black money is contrary to the section 20(2) of the country’s constitution and meaningless from the perspective of revenue collection.”We expected that the Finance Minister would not walk through the unethical, unconstitutional and indiscriminate way – scope of whitening black money in budget – bowing down to the pressure of influential quarter,” he said.
