Transparency international Bangladesh (TIB) on Friday expressed anxiety about some draft laws of public services and asked the government to cancel those.
“In the draft laws some provisions made us worried as those are to take permission before arrest of a public servant who was convicted in any criminal case. Do not expel instantly any government employee who is convicted below one year jail. To keep scope to get rid of from expel or exempt make us seriously worried that it will be obstacle to ensure neutral public administration and higher professionalism in public services,” TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said this in a statement sent to the media on Friday.
Iftekharuzzaman said, “It is discrimination and anti-constitutional spirit to seek permission to arrest those public servants who have committed criminal offenses.”
“This section also seemed as a conflict with government promises in which it said to control corruptions in government sectors. It also poses the risk to make Anti-Corruption Commission weaker in this regards,” the statement said.
It urged the government to cancel this section from the amended laws.
The TIB Executive Director also said that it is emergency for the government to cancel more rules from the draft laws to ensure public servants kept safe from the pressure of influential politicians from ruling party so that they can do their duty keeping themselves tension free.
“It also needed to ensure proper evaluations, promotions and other beneficiaries as per the honesty, skill and talents in neutral conditions for the public servants,” the statement said.
The TIB also suggested to put the draft in website for its transparency and for giving advises for the people as like stakeholders.
