UNB, Dhaka :Voicing concern over the recent inauguration of projects by the Anti Corruption Commission chairman, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has urged the ACC leadership to avoid such matters of conflict of interest. In a statement on Sunday, TIB executive director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said inauguration of bridges and joining political programmes by the ACC leadership can create conflict ofinterest for the ACC and may create hurdles for it to work freely and independently. He said the ACC leadership must remember that although the Commission was created by the government, it is not a government institution.”The ACC must be free from all sorts of political loyalty and influence. If the ACC leadership does not leave the ‘inauguration culture’ practiced by public representatives or ministers-bureaucrats, professionalism and image of the anti-graft body will be destroyed,” Iftekharuzzaman said.According to newspaper reports, ACC chairman M Badiuzzaman inaugurated two bridges and joined a dinner arranged by Laxmipur municipal mayor (a ruling party leader) in Laxmipur on Friday.
