Sports Reporter :Chittagong Vikings posted a thrilling one-run win over Sylhet Super Start in their second match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.Sent into bat first, Chittagong Vikings piled up a healthy 180 for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then they restricted Sylhet Super Stars to 179 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.Chittagong made a poor start as they lost their opening batsman Dilshan (0) when their score was 14 for the loss of one wicket.Later, dashing opener Tamim Iqbal and Yasir Ali rescued from the debacle contributing together 79 runs for the second wicket partnership before Tamim Iqbal was caught by Mohammad Shahid off Ajantha Mendis when Chittagong’s score was 93 for the loss of two wickets.Tamim Iqbal cracked a superb 69. His 45-ball innings was ornamented with four sixes and six fours. Yasir Ali notched up a splendid 63. His 52-ball knock was decorated with four sixes and one four.Later, Yasir Ali and Jeevan Mendis put on together 30 runs in the fourth wicket stand Before Jeevan Mendis was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Mahammad Shahid when Chittagong’s total was 138 for the loss of four wickets.After dismissal of Jeevan Mendis, Yasir Ali and Ziaur Rahman built another notable partnership. They contributed 42 runs for the fifth wicket stand before Yasir Ali was run out by joint effort of Nazmul Islam and Mushfiqur Rahim when Chittagong’s innings came to an end. Jeevan Mendis and Ziaur Rahman scored 20 and 15 (not out) respectively.Subashis Roy, Mohammad Shahid, Ajantha Mendis and Nazmul Islam took one wicket each.Later, Sylhet Super Stars made a solid start with EMDY Munaweera and Junaid Siddique, the two openers added together 66 runs before Junaid Siddique (5) was cleanly bowled out by pacer Shafiul Islam.Munaweera hammered a hurricane 64 from 30 balls featuring 13 fours and one six.Later, Mushfiqur Rahim and Nurul Hasan contributed together 55 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Nurul Hasan was trapped leg before wicket by Shafiul Islam when Sylhet’s score was 131 for the loss of four wickets.Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 50. His 34-ball captain’s knock was studded with three fours and two sixes. Nurul Hasan scored 32 off 20 balls with three fours and a six.Shafiul Islam struck again as Nazmul Hossain Milon (9) was bowled out by the Chittagong pacer when Sylhet’s score was 145 for the loss of five wickets.Then Mohammad Shahid was run out by Tamim Iqbal for 3.Shafiul Islam grabbed three wickets at the cost of 25 runs while Saeed Ajmal bagged a pair of wickets for 35 runs.Shafiul Islam was adjudged the Man of the Match for his controlled and tight bowling.
