Detectives have arrested the driver of Awami League lawmaker [of Mymensingh -9 constituency] Anwarul Abedin Tuhin for his alleged involvement in the killing of a 10-year-old schoolgirl inside the car.
The driver has been identified as Shahjahan Habib Munna, 20. A team of District Detective Branch of police arrested him from the MP’s house on Thursday night. The killer is the cousin of victim Nadira Akhter, police said.
On the day, the miscreants killed at least three minor girls after rape at Mymensingh, Dhaka and Chittagong in a span on only six hours on the same day.
According to police, Shahjahan Habib Munna went to the school of Nadira Akhter by driving the car of MP and forced the victim to get into the car. Later, he slaughtered Nadira with a sharp knife.
When contacted, Superintendent of Police in Mymensingh Moinul Haque said, “The victim [Nadira] was cousin sister of killer. Munna killed her when she refused to response to the love proposal. He [Munna] has already confessed his guilt.”
In Ashulia, the police recovered the body of a five-year-old girl wrapped in a jute bag from the septic tank in the Goalteck area at about 9:00pm.
The victim was identified as Shaon, daughter of day labourer Swapon Mia.
“She had been missing since Thursday afternoon. At a stage of searching, the local people recovered the body from septic tank. The killers dumped the body in a bid to suppress the incident. The killers fled the scene quickly when the local people were about to track them,” father of victim Swapon Mia said.
Officer-in Charge of Ashulia Police Station Mohsinul Quader said, “We have sent a team to the spot. Police also have started investigation into the incident.”
However, none was arrested in connection with the incident till the time of filing this report on Friday night
In another incident, the miscreants killed an eight-year-old girl after rape and dumped the body in a pond wrapped in a jute bag. Police recovered the body and prepared a surathal report describing the degree of torture.
The victim was identified as Tania, daughter of Abdur Rahman, hailed from Kendua in Netrokona district.
The local people informed the police when they saw a jute bag floating on the pond water.
Officer-in Charge of EPZ Police Station, Abul Kalam Azad, said: “After preliminary investigation we are sure that the victim was killed after rape. After death, the killers dumped the body in the pond.”
None was nabbed in connection with the incident till Friday night.
