Three alleged militants were killed during the operation of Rapid Action Battalion in a hideout of banned radicals outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on the fourth floor of the six-storey building ‘Rubby Villa’ in the city’s West Nakhalpara early Friday.
Several suicidal vests, a pistol, explosives, improvised explosive devices (IED), and some bulbs were recovered from the hideout, which was rented by the militants on January 4.
Law enforcers had earlier raided the house No 13/1 three times which is approximately 100 yards away from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), RAB officials said.
“The law enforcers cordoned off the building around 2:00am suspecting
that militants may hole up there, said Mufti Mahmud Khan, Director of Legal and Media Wing of the elite force.
“Sensing the presence of RAB members, the “militants” fired bullets and hurled grenades at the law enforcers. Later, the members of the elite force entered the “hideout” after breaking open door and conducted operation there, the RAB official said.
Before conducting the operation, the 61 residents of the nine other flats have been taken to the house owner’s flat in the first-floor, he said.
