Locals in panic: Thousands of Chinese nationals living in Habiganj

Several thousand Chinese nationals are working in the country’s Habiganj district for which the government has taken strict precautionary measures against outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.
But the District Civil Surgeon’s Office could not make the list of the Chinese nationals and Bangladeshis returning from China to this district, despite the directives of the Health Ministry. As such the people have expressed their anger and frustration.
However, the health department says that the companies and field level health workers had been instructed to prepare the list. But they did not respond. It is learnt from Investigations that the Novel Corona virus originating in China spread to different countries.
Meanwhile, at least 20/25 students and businessmen from Habiganj returned home from China on different times. Besides, more than a thousand Chinese citizens have been employed in various establishments in the district. There is even a Chinese-owned ceramics company in the district. All of them are Chinese nationals working in the company called ‘BHL Ceramics Ltd.’
In addition, more than a thousand Chinese citizens have been employed in various companies, including Bibiana Gas Field, Bibiana Power Plant, Shahjibazar Power Plant, Rashidpur Gas Field, Star Ceramics. Who have come to China and Bangladesh at different times.
District Civil Surgeon Mostafizur Rahman said, “We asked various companies to prepare a list Chinese people working in their companies. We also asked the health workers in the field to collect the list of Bangladeshis coming back to their respective areas and then submit them to us. But none of them has submitted the list to us yet. ‘ He said: We will soon begin to make this list with the help of law enforcers if necessary. ‘
