Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday reiterated that those hooligans of the BNP-Jamaat who have burnt
people to death and injured and damaged vehicles in the name of hartal and blockade would not be spared.
“We won’t tolerate anymore if people are affected in such way…those who’ve caused such losses to public life and property, we’ll surely ensure their punishment, Inshallah. We’ve already started taking legal steps against them and continue to do so,” she said.
The Prime Minister was addressing a function after distributing cheques of financial assistance among the family members of the victims of the petrol bomb attacks, injured people and the owners of different vehicles damaged by the BNP-Jamaat violence during the hartal and blockade at her office.
Hasina said, if exemplary punishment is not ensured then the culprits would not dare to commit such acts again.
The Prime Minister yesterday distributed a total of 222 cheques among them amounting Tk 8,37,59,000. Out of those, she handed over some 37 cheques amounting Tk 1,55,00,000 among the family members of those killed and injured people burnt in petrol bomb attacks.
Besides, she handed over some 185 cheques totalling Tk 6,82,59,000 among the owners of damaged and affected vehicles. Apart from today’s assistance, the Prime Minister earlier distributed
some 994 cheques among the damaged vehicle owners alongside the family members of those killed and burn injured in petrol bomb attacks totalling Tk 33,47,72,000.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, State Minister for LGRD Moshiur Rahman Ranga, PM’s Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim and Secretary General of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Khondoker Enayetullah were, among others, present.
The Prime Minister said it is not possible to fully compensate the losses of the affected people, but the government efforts are always there to assist the affected people.
Mentioning that the politics of Awami League is only for ensuring welfare of the common people , the Prime Minister said her government wants that the country’ people lead a better life. “Our only goal is to further develop the county …the country’s people suffered a lot in the past, and efforts are on so that they do not have to suffer in the future.”
Hasina also sought support of the country’s people, including the transport owners, so that no one could anymore cause harm to people. “We’ll try our level best to maintain peace and security among the country’s people.
