The mother of a newborn baby was detained at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for her alleged bid to take out the baby out of the hospital without obtaining the authority’s release order.
According to hospital sources the woman, Asma had the ulterior motive to sell her baby son, who was born last Friday at DMCH.
DMCH Director Brigadier General Mostafizur Rahman, said: “Asma gave birth to a male child on Friday.
Asma with her elder sister, Sumi, tried to flee the hospital without a release at around 1:30am on Sunday.”
When on-duty nurse, Farzana, tried to stop them, from going out with the baby they on a desperate bid attacked Farzana. Later, on duty Ansar men at the gate detained them.
The Director also said, in our primary investigation, it was revealed that the mother wanted to sell her child for only Tk20, 000 to 25,000 only.
Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station Sirajul Islam said that Asma’s sister Sumi is now in police custody. Preparation for filing a case is under process.”
At present, Asma, wife of Zohur Uddin Zahir and her baby son are under hospital authority’s supervision, he added.
It may be mentioned that another newborn baby was stolen from Dhaka Medical College Hospital while the mother asleep at hospital bed on August 21.
On August 27, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued the baby from Kalameshwar village of Board Bazar in Gazipur.
The RAB team also arrested two women who were involved in the incident.
