UNB, Dhaka :Terming the present government an ‘unelected and illegal’ one, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Khandker Mahbub Hossain on Monday said the regime has no right to stay in power anymore. “This illegal government must step down. Or else, the country’s people will force it to quit,” Khandker Mahbub said.He was addressing a programme organised in front of the SCBA Bhaban in observance of the ‘Black Day’ marking the attack on the lawyers inside the Supreme Court by outsiders, including BCL and Jubo League men, during the BNP-led 18-party alliance’s ‘March for Democracy’ programme on December 29 last year. Khandker Mahbub, also a BNP chairperson’s adviser and vice-chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council, urged lawyers to forge a united movement together with people to unseat the government. Pro-BNP lawyers hoisted black flag in front of the SCBA Bhaban and brought out a black-flag procession inside the SC premises marking the day.Later, they tried to take to the street with the procession, but failed as police intercepted them. Describing the last year’s attack on the lawyers as unprecedented in the Supreme Court history, Khandker Mahbub said such incident cannot happen in a democratic country. He also said those involved in the attack will be brought to justice one day.
