‘They kidnapped and later killed the victim’ informed RAB-11 in a press briefing in at its Adamji headquarters in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj on Tuesday. The RAB team revealed this shocking story after arresting some youths who are allegedly involved in the murder of Zahidul Islam, a victim of ‘Agyan (unconscious) Party’. The gang has been committing this crime making people unconscious by using medicines for the last ten years under the guise of carrying passengers, says RAB.
Two teams of RAB arrested seven members of this gang including its ring leader Md. Saiful Islam from different parts of the country. Lt. Col. Tanvir Mahmud Pasha (PSC), commander of RAB-11, outlined the nature of their crime at the press conference.
The arrestees are Mohammad Saiful Islam, 30, son of Mohammad Gafur Ali of Adarshagram of Saghata of Gaibanda district, Mohammad Roni Mia alias Tony, 30, son of Ibrahim Khalil of Durgapur village of the same district and Mohammad Shamim, 40, son of late Gias Uddin of Sadar Masjidpara area of Panchagarh district, Abdul Mannan Sheikh, 22, son of Mohammad Ibrahim Sheikh of Andardanagar area of Pirgachha of Rangpur district, Mohammad Sumon, 38, son of Mohammad Laskar Pramanik of Putimari village of Singra of Natore district and Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, 3, son of late Taiz Uddin of Galimpur village of Bagatipara of the same district and Md. Habibullah (52), son of late Yasin of Channa Baubazar area under Joydebpur Thana of Gazipur district.
The RAB commander said police recovered the body of Jahidul Islam, 50, from a pond on the Tengratech Asian Highway in Rupganj on July 21. Jahidul is a resident of Ekhlaspur village of Singra Thana of Natore. Kajal, 21, son of the deceased, filed a murder case with the Rupganj Police Station on July 25. On the night of August 16, two teams raided different parts of the country and arrested seven people, including their leader Saiful.
During the preliminary interrogation, the arrestee informed that on the night of July 18, nine people from Dhaka’s Keraniganj and five people from Natore led by Saiful Islam came to Elenga in Tangail. Later on 19 July they went to Paduar Bazar in Comilla. After the evening, Zahidul Islam was picked up with other five passengers in a truck that left for Natore, assuring those homebound passengers less fare.
RAB captain further said that they are basically members of the Agyan party. They are accused of kidnapping and demanding ransom. During interrogation, gang leader Saiful admitted that for about ten to twelve years, they used to seize everything by making passengers unconscious in different parts of the country.
On the same day, they looted Tk 13,000 from three persons at Gazipur crossroads and Tk 1.34 lakh from a cattle trader on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
An analysis of the Crime Database Management System has revealed that there are multiple cases against Saiful Islam and his associates in different police stations across the country.
Most of the members of the criminal circle have multiple cases against them under theft, rape and gambling laws. All the arrestees are in the process of being handed over to the investigating officer of the case.
