In Bangladesh, as legendary tabla players, Arun Goswami, Mridu Bhushan, Madhusudan, Monir Hossain, Sadek Ali, Debu Chowdhury and Milon Bhatto are mentionable names. They made acceptance among the audience by virtue of their
outstanding tabla playing in different musical compositions. Bishwajit Sarkar Bishu, Rabindranath Pal, Pallab Sanyal, Anirban Sarkar and Apurba Deb are
the followers of previously mentioned
legendary tabla players.
Bishwajit Sarkar got primary lessons from Dhiren Sur. Since 1976, he has been working as a professional tabla player. In 1979, he started to work in Betar as music director. Though he was enlisted in BTV in 1980 but he worked there permanently in 1990. In playback song, he first worked with Sheikh Sadi Khan. Under his musical composition, Syed Abdul Hadi, Subir Nandi, Rafiqul Alam, Samina Chowdhury, Fahmida Nabi, among others, rendered songs. While sharing his feelings as a tabla player Bishwajit Sarkar, hailed from Chandpur, said, “I got the opportunity
to work with respected Satya Saha,
Anwar Parvez, Ali Hossain, among others. I feel proud to be a tabla player.”
Hailed from Sirajganj, Rabindranath Pal first got primary lessons in tabla from
Guru (mentor) Ramesh Chandra Das.
He is the chief instrumental artist and music composer of BTV. But he feels
comfortable to introduce himself as
a tabla player. He said, “In fact,
I got huge respect which I did not deserve as I believe. Artists like me and
It is my achievement – I think.”
Pallab Sanyal got primary training in tabla from his father Shailesh Sanyal. Pallab Sanyal has acceptability among
senior to present generation’s singers. They also depend on him. He is an enlisted artist of BTV and Betar. In the beginning of 90s he started playing tabla professionally. Since 1995, he has been working in movies with the hands of Ripon Khan. Hailed from Pabna, Pallab said, “I never think about my achievements. I want tabla
players should getthe state honour.”
Apurba Deb and Anirban Sarkar are two tabla players of present generation. Anirban learned tabla first from his
maternal uncle Gopal Dey. Since 2002, he has been working tabla playing professionally and since 2008 he has been doing job at Betar. He said, “As a tabla player, I am not repentant but feel proud of it.” On the other hand, Apurba Deb got
his primary lessons from Sanjib Kumar Dey. Since 2010, he has taken tabla playing as his profession and joined in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in 2017.
Apurba said, “This profession is many things to me. I get loves from the artists
for my works.”
