A suspected thief was lynched near the residence of Asad Bhuiyan of Shubharara Mathpara under Abhaynagar police station in Jashore at around 4:00 am on Friday.
The dead was identified as Ilias Sheikh, 40, son of Hakim Sheikh of Shubharara village under Abhaynagar upazila.
Tajul Islam, officer in-charge, Abhaynagar police station told Newsmen that the man died in mob beating in the spot. Being informed the police rushed to the spot and sent it to Jashore General Hospital for autopsy after recovering it.
He was an accused in several cases, the OC added.
Locals told that the man was caught red handed and beat up by a mob while he was fleeing the spot after stealing a battery run van, owned by Sukesh Das of Paikpara under the upazila.
