Mannan Hira was one of the noted playwrights and
filmmakers who breathed his last at 8:30pm at the Islami Bank Hospital in the capital on December 23 due to cardiac arrest. Yesterday his body was kept at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy from 11:00am
to 12:00 noon and then he was buried next to
his parents’ grave at own home in Sirajganj.
Born in 1956, Mannan Hira was a senior member of Aranyak Natya Dal and contributed immensely towards its success. He was also involved with street theatre movement. He was also the president of Bangladesh Poth Natok Parishad.
In 2006, Mannan Hira received Bangla Academy
Literary Award in the category of Drama.
This noted playwright and director wrote around 15
theatre plays including Laal Jomin, Bhager Manush, Moyur Singhason and Sada-Kalo. Murkho Loker Murkho Kotha is one
of his street plays. He also wrote numerous dramas for
television channels. In 2014, Hira debuted as a filmmaker through Ekattorer Khudiram, a children’s movie set during
the War of Liberation of Bangladesh. It was government-grant movie. He also directed short films
Gorom Bhater Golpo and 71-er Rong Pencil.
The death of Mannan Hira created a shawdow
of sadness in the theatre arena.
Playwright SA Haque Alik wrote, “I can’t get it any more, God! Mannan Hira Bhai, a member of the Directors Guild, playwright, organiser and chairman of Pothnatok Parishad, your favorite Pothnatok Parishad has left us.”
Actor and theatre activist Shatabdi Wadud wrote, “Mannan Hira Bhai has died! Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi
rajiun.” Actor Rashed Mamunur Rahman wrote,
“Mannan Hira, not a brother! Inna lillahe wa inna
ilahi rajiun. Oh my god … what happened …”
Actress Shamima Tusti shared her feelings by this way,
“I don’t know what to write, what to say, I have lost my mental strength. What am I helpless, how many memories, how many battles, and the studies this year is so heavy
and so is today Mannan Hira Bhai, what can I say? Goodbye Hira Bhai, you will be fine in other areas.”
