Theatre activists celebrate World Theatre Day at Shilpakala Academy

On the occasion of World Theatre Day 2022, thespians and theatre activists in the country joined a
celebration programme held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital on Sunday,
says a press release.
The BSA, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation and the Bangladesh Pathnatak Parishad, co-organised the event in the BSA’s National Theatre Hall. The programme featured discussion, awards ceremony and cultural show, starting with a colourful procession at 5:00pm from the BSA premises followed by a discussion at 6:00pm. Natya Sarathi famed eminent thespian Ataur Rahman joined the discussion session as its chief guest, while Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Ghulam Quddus was present as the special guest. The discussion was presided over by BSA Director General and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Chairman Liaquat Ali Lucky. At the event, eminent thespian Masud Ali Khan and Arham Alo were conferred with the ‘Bishwa Natya Dibas Sommanona’ for their dedication and contribution to the group theatre culture in the country since the 60s’. Artist Nasim Ahmed Nadvi received the award on behalf of Masud Ali Khan, who could not attend the programme due to health issues. Thespian Afroza Banu presented a translation of American theatre director Peter Sellars’ statement on World Theatre Day 2022. The welcoming address was presented by the BGTF’s acting Secretary General Chandan Reza, while Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation praesidium member Ananta Hira delivered a message, written by Ataur Rahman. Pathnatak Parishad President Mizanur Rahman and General Secretary Ahmed Gias were also present at the ceremony.
