Staff Reporter: The Bangladesh Under-19 team showered with heroic welcome of thousands of fans after their plane landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka on Wednesday at 5:00pm.
The Bangladesh Under-19 team touched down at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with the ICC Under-19 World Cup trophy this evening, amidst the din of the fans and media personnel gathered at the airport to show their utmost love to the young Tigers.
Captain Akbar Ali-led world champions were accorded a small reception at the airport lounge and there was a cake cut to commemorate the occasion.
The Tigers have arrived three days after beating their Indian counterparts in the final in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Sunday. The team landed sometime after 5 PM (BDT). The Young Tigers boarded a flight yesterday from Johannesburg at 10 PM (South Africa Time) and following a transit, they boarded a flight for Dhaka from Dubai this morning.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earlier decided to keep the homecoming low-key, with a small reception planned at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, before Akbar Ali’s team are taken to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium’s Academy ground for a press conference.
Meet BCB President: The victorious team have meet the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The gates have been opened and the multitudes of fans have gone to th e stadium galleries.
There are loud chants of ‘Bangladesh! Bangladesh!’ are echoing around the big bowl. BCB officials and former players like Akram Khan, Naimur Rahman, Minhajul Abedin are also there to welcome the young tigers.
