The newborn girl, who moved and breathed at the time of her last bath after declared dead by the hospital doctors on Monday, finally died at Dhaka Shishu Hospital on Tuesday under treatment.
Director of Dhaka Shishu Hospital Professor MA Aziz, who treated the baby in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), declared the baby dead at 1.30 am on Tuesday.
Deputy Director of Shishu Hospital Abu Tayab said that the baby was still in danger on Monday as they arranged artificial respiration as the best possible measure to get her cured.
Meanwhile, the DMCH formed a four-member committee headed by Assistant Director Bidyut Kanti Paul to investigate the incident.
“We are investigating to ascertain whether this was the same baby. We shall conduct DNA tests if necessary,” said Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, Director of the hospital.
Sharmin Akhter, 20, wife of Minhaz Uddin, hailing from Dhamrai, was admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with labour pain on Sunday.
She delivered a baby girl at 7:30am on Monday. The on-duty doctors declared the newborn dead just within few minutes of the delivery. The DMCH also issued a death certificate.
The baby was first rushed to Azimpur Maternity Hospital, and then to Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
