A plane of Thai Airways on Tuesday made emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka as tyres of the right wheel of the plane blasted.
As a result, the flight operations remained suspended for more than three hours.
No causality was, however, reported. The flight from Bangkok landed safely around 12:21 pm, said SN Wahidur Rahman, Deputy Director of Special Air Traffic Control.
He said, the Dhaka-bound flight coming in from Thailand informed the traffic control tower moments before landing about the burst wheel.
All the passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and the runway was kept shut for three hours, causing delay in take-off and landing of some planes.
A highly placed official of the civil aviation ministry, who was on the spot, said that six of the plane’s rear wheels were seriously damaged.
However, it is not clear as to when or how the wheels have burst.
According to available sources, due to damaged wheels, the plane veered off the tracks initially, but the pilot skillfully brought on the runway.
The plane ploughed the grounds outside the runway and brought through debris and mud on to the tracks – resulting in temporary halt in the use of the runway.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the incident will be carried out by Thai authorities.
On May 15, a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines made an emergency landing at Shah Amanat International Airport in the Port City following a technical glitch.
The Kolkata-bound flight of the national flag carrier took off from the airport at 12:30pm. It came back and landed at the airport around 12:50pm as soon as it received ‘technical glitch signal.’
Earlier on March 24 this year, a Malaysia bound US-Bangla aircraft made an emergency landing 15 minutes after taking off at Dhaka airport.
The emergency landing of the plane took place at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as the pilot of the plane received a “false indication” from the aircraft after taking off at 8:45am.
