Shaiyo Triple A, a business conglomerate of Thailand, has expressed its keen interest to invest in Bangladesh to generate electricity from garbage.
Thai group’s founding President Dr Suwira Songmetta conveyed the interest for the “waste-to-energy” project when he met State Minister for Power and Energy Nastrul Hamid at his ministry office on Monday.
Thai ambassador in Dhaka Panpimon Suwannapongse led the Thai delegation.
During the meeting, the Shaiyo Triple A officials informed the junior minister that the group is interested to take up the project either in partnership with local companies or alone with its own initiative.
Welcoming the Thai group, Nasrul Hamid said the interest to invest in the green and clean energy sector is growing fast in Bangladesh.
Appreciating the thought, he said waste-to-energy projects could help make mega cities, including Dhaka, as clean ones.
The Thai Ambassador said investment by Thai company in Bangladesh will strengthen the relations between the two friendly nations.
According to Shaiyo Triple A’s website, it is a strong and stable multinational group of companies with a focus on sustainable growth together with society and communities.
In the past, the group’s research and development strategy have led it to become the world’s largest exporter of rice and cassava.
Today, Shaiyo Triple A is the world’s largest producer and exporter of high quality woodchips.
