Textile minister for silk sector revitalization

Textile and Jute Minister Imaj Uddin Pramanik, MP, here Tuesday expressed his wholehearted willingness to revitalize the silk sector to uphold its glorious heritage.
He said the Rajshahi region and the country as well is proud for the Rajshahi silk. So, we have obligation to protect the sector from further degradation.
The minister made this observation while sharing views with the officers and employees of Bangladesh Silk Development Board (BSDB) at its headquarter in Rajshahi city.
BSDB Director General Swapan Kumar Pal and Director of Bangladesh Sericulture Research Training Institute Jamal Uddin Shah briefed the minister about their respective activities, present position and further development plans.
Minister Imaj Uddin Pramanik said: “We need to survive the prestigious silk sector. We have to devise ways and means on how to make it possible. All the authorities concerned should extend full-length support towards the government in this regard.”
Responding to the demands raised by the BSDB CBA leaders he said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always favour of the labour-class people. He added that necessary measures will be taken to reopen the now defunct two BSDB’s silk factories.
He said the sericulture together with its industrial side involves a huge number of people who depend on agriculture as an agro-based and labour-intensive industry.
