Mitu murder: Testimonies of 2 persons over gun recover recorded

A court here on Thursday recorded the testimonies of two individuals, including an officer of the Detective Branch, in relation to the recovery of the firearm used to kill former police superintendent Babul Akhter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.
Chittagong Metropolitan Judicial and Session Judge Md Shah Nur recorded the testimony of Mostak Ahmed, a sub-inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) police in Chittagong, and a witness of the recovery Jafor Ahmed.
Public prosecutor Fakhruddin Chowdhury confirmed the two testimonies were recorded in the case.
The court also fixed 22nd August as the next date for recording depositions in the case, he added.
Earlier, the court recorded the statement of the plaintiff of the case additional deputy commissioner (North) of city DB police, Md Kamaruzzaman.
According to the court sources, Mostak Ahmed and Jafor Ahmed told the court that the weapon which was used for killing Mitu was recovered from the home of Monir, one of the accused in the case, according to the information of Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, another accused of the case.
On June 5, 2016 unidentified miscreants gunned down Mahmuda Khanam Mitu at the city’s GEC intersection as she went there to drop her son, Mahir Akhter, 7, for his schoolbus.
Some weeks later, police arrested Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, a leader of Awami Swechchasebak League and rickshaw-puller Monir Hossain along with a pistol and a revolver used to kill Mitu.
