Armed hill terrorists have attacked members of the security forces patrolling Kaptai in Rangamati.
The incident took place at midnight on Monday at the base of Dhulyachhari Bridge in Rangamati Sadar.
Members of the 8th Battalion of the Kaptai Jeevatali Army Camp, who were on patrol, threw batons in self-defense in the wake of the incident.
Bilton Chakma, 48, was shot dead on the spot but his accomplices escaped. A search of the scene in the early hours of the morning turned up a revolver with three rounds of ammunition.
Officer-in-charge of Rangamati Kotwali police station Md Kabir Hossain confirmed the incident.
Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sufi Ullah provided further confirmation and said the Kotwali police were in the process of sending the body of the deceased to Rangamati General Hospital for autopsy.
