We are shocked by the mindless killing of men and women in their youths and our prayers are with the victims and their families. Meanwhile armed troops will take up duties for guarding sensitive buildings and embassies, freeing police officers to join counter-terrorism duties.
Soldiers are due to take up position at Buckingham Palace, Parliament and Downing Street on Wednesday as part of the deployment named Operation Temperer, which is being enacted after security experts warned the Government that another terrorist attack could be imminent. Police forces outside London have also asked for troops.
The authorities are seeking to establish if Salman Abedi, the Manchester suicide bomber who left 22 people dead, was part of a wider network. Ms Amber Rudd has said it is “likely” Abedi was not acting alone. Greater Manchester Police revealed on Wednesday that three men have been arrested in the south of the city in connection with the concert bomb attack. It follows the arrest yesterday of a 23-year-old man, who remains in custody.
Prime Minister Theresa May has raised the threat level to the highest possible rating, meaning another atrocity is expected. She said a “wider group of individuals” could have been involved in the Manchester Arena blast rather than just Abedi.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terror group claimed responsibility for the barbaric attack, which involved a home-made device packed with nuts and bolts which exploded in the venue’s foyer as thousands of young people were leaving.
So it happened again — a young disenfranchised university dropout went to a place — in this case Libya, became radicalized, came back and tried to prove that all Christians deserve death — the monotonous ideology of ISIS which preaches hatred to all religions which don’t comply with its notorious ideology.
But questions remain — why was Salman Abedi not tracked when he came from Libya by British Intelligence ? Especially when Libya is known as a hotspot for groups like ISIS, alongwith places like Syria and Yemen. Anyone who goes to these hotspots should automatically be targeted by Western intelligence — and it appears now that Salman Abedi was known to British intelligence but he was not actively pursued.
Anyone who goes to these terror hotspots should be targeted by Western intelligence as a possible aide to subversion — especially if they happen to be young and college dropouts. This will go a long way to keep such delinquents out of harms way. It is disgraceful that people who have left their homelands and taken shelter in liberal Western societies should then turn around and attack these very nations which have provided then with shelter and guidance. It is unacceptable.
The senseless killers have no ideology, they are insane paid killers and must be wiped out to roots and branches.
