Notorious terrorist of offshore island, Shandwip Jafar Alam alias Terror Jafar, was arrested after gunfight with police from Shandwip upazila Sadar area in the afternoon on Thursday.
Sources said, acting on secret information, a team of police raided the home of Jafar and the cadres of Jafar opened fire to police sensing their presence. At that time, two policemen named SI Akber Hossain and Constable Faruk Hossain were injured. However, at one stage Jafar surrendered to the police and the team arrested him. Officer-in-Charge of Shandwip thana Shamsul Islam said, arrested Jafar was accused of five cases of murder and arms and yaba smuggling.
Fresher receptions at CU held : Fresher receptions of Micro Biology Department and Physics Department of Chittagong University were held at the campus separately. Vice-chancellor of Chittagong University Prof Dr Ifthekhar Uddin Chowdhury was present at both functions as chief guest.
Fresher reception of Micro Biology Department of Chittagong University was chaired by its Chairman Prof Dr Wahida Sumi. Dean of Biology Faculty Dr Mohammad Mahabubur Rahman was present at the function as special guest. Among others, Prof Dr Mohammad Abul Monsur, Prof Dr Mohammad Tauhid Hossain, Prof Dr Mohammad Jobaidul Alam and Prof Dr Ferdousi Ali addressed the function.
